Anyone who gets to know that my birth and my deeds are transcendental like this; he even after leaving this body will never be reborn, he will attain Me, O Arjuna!

One who gets to know about my qualities, will merge in Me and will not be born again. So just by knowing about God’s qualities one gets rid of the cycle of birth-death-rebirth. How?

Swamiji – God is not born out of compulsion like us. We don’t have a choice whether to be born or not to be born. We are born to experience our karma. But God has a choice.

Freed from attachment, fear, anger, being fully situated in Me, being purified with knowledge and penance, many have attained the Love for me.

In the previous verse, Lord says just by his knowledge people are freed from the cycle of birth and death. How? is told here.

Once you get to know about something higher, the low level things(material) do not interest you anymore. By knowing him(which is the ultimate), people are freed from attachment, fear and anger(which basically arises from material attachments). Their nature becomes more satvik and they get purified by knowledge and penance(meditation). Then they will attain the Love for me, which is considered the highest form one can attain, and hence they need not take birth again.

One Response to Understanding Gita – 71

  1. The Lord or Reality is not different from love. Once human mind goes beyond “material desires, Psychological attachments, Ego she/he touches upon this eternal thing we call “love”. Meditation is this state of love, where there is no past thoughts or future thoughts but only the moment of NOW, PRESENT.
