Sri Krishna uvacha –

O sinless Arjuna! In this world there are two kinds of faith as formerly told by me, for the philosophical minds, Sankhya Yoga, for the devotional minds, Karma Yoga.

When Arjuna asks why is Bhakthi not enough, why should he fight? Sri Krishna says so far I’ve told you two paths one can follow, Sankya Yoga for the philosophically inclined, Karma Yoga for the devotionally inclined.

When one is inclined towards contemplating, he cannot be pushed into action. When one is inclined towards action, he cannot be forced to sit and meditate.

Without starting a karma, one cannot achieve freedom form reactions, nor simply by renunciation, one can achieve siddhi.

If you want freedom from entanglement from your own karma, you cannot avoid karma altogether. Just the same way, just because you renounce everything you will not attain siddhi.

Arjuna asked why are you asking me to fight if Bhakthi is what is needed?

So Sri Krishna says, just because you don’t fight the war, you will not be free from it’s consequences, or just by renouncing the war, you’ll not attain knowledge.
