From the mercy of Lord, all miseries will destroy, in such a happy mind soon the intelligence will be well established.

Continuing from the previous verse, when one gives up attachment and aversion and gets the mercy of Lord, all his miseries will destroy, and then his mind will become happy, and in such happy mind, intelligence will be soon established.

So it is not when you run behind senses that you find happiness, but it is when you regulate them.

The one whose intelligence is devoid of devotion, he will not have bhavana( devotional feelings towards the Lord), when there are no feelings, there won’t be shantih(peace of mind); how can ashantih(disturbed mind) give you happiness?

Continuing from previous verse, if the buddhih(intellect) is not established in the Lord, he will not have any feelings towards the Lord. When there are no feelings, there won’t be any peace of mind, how can anybody be happy without the peace of mind.

There are lot of people who in-spite of having everything are still depressed. When you compare scientists and saadhus, both would’ve come to the same conclusion, but with different means. But yet some scientists are lacking in something while a saadhu is full of life. And there are some scientists who are highly spiritual and are very lively, like Abdul Kalam.

Why that happens is explained in this shloka – when there is lack of devotion, feelings won’t arise. When there is no devotional feeling, you will always feel a lack. With such a feeling and no peace of mind, how can anyone be happy?

So devotion is very important.
